Projects
Bunnings BBQs
Three cheers for Bunnings. Their generosity allows our fabulous BBQ team to exercise their skills on the last Friday of the month outside their Mentone store. This enables us to raise much needed funds for projects.
We are always looking for volunteers to help with putting the sizzle into our snags. If you would like to donate a few hours for a good cause once a month, please get in contact with us, we would love to have you.
Below is a selection of our favourite projects that we are supporting this year.

Story Dogs
Story Dogs is a literacy program for children. Learning to read is often less about intellectual limitation than about overcoming fears. “Fear can destroy intelligence,” says educator William Ayers. Animals are ideal reading companions because they promote relaxation and lower blood pressure, do not judge, laugh or criticise and allow children to proceed at their own pace. The story dog project is proving to be an outstanding success with over 2450 children assisted each week. Beaumaris Lions are delighted sponsor a story dog, ensuring that the project runs in the Beaumaris area. If you would like to donate, volunteer with your dog or just find out more about this project see here.
Recycle for Sight
This project is part of the Lions Clubs International Recycle for sight project, where usable spectacles are collected, graded and distributed to people in need of corrective lenses. These are packed and sent to our Queensland headquarters. Postage is free thanks to the generosity of Australian Post. The gift of sight, from Lions Clubs in every corner of Australia, is delivered with substantial financial help from Dollar Sweet Mint Company of Melbourne. If you wish to donate spectacle for this project, you may drop off your spectacle at either OPSM or Spec Savers at the Southland shopping centre or contact us (details on our contact page).
